Mouthguard Length & Thickness

Mouthguard Length

For some people, wearing a mouthguard gives them that "gagging" feeling, while others just have a really bad gag relfex in general.

Most people don't suffer from either of these issues, but we still offer 2 different Mouthguard Length options to suit everyone's needs.

When trying to decide which Mouthguard Length to choose, don't overthink it. Just ask yourself "Do I have a bad gag reflex? Do mouthguards make me gag?" and if you answer yes to either of those questions, we will gladly trim the back of the mouthguard for you.

There is no significant difference between the two options regarding comfort, fit, or protection.

"WHAT'S A GAG REFLEX?" - A gag reflex is an involuntary contraction of the back of the throat which is triggered by an object touching the roof of your mouth, the back of your tongue, the area around your tonsils, or the back of your throat. In other words, the feeling of vomiting or dry heaving.

STANDARD Length

Covers 1st and 2nd molars. This option is what most athletes are comfortable with. NOTE: We do not cover the 3rd molar (wisdom tooth.) Most people don't have their wisdom teeth, but even if you do, we will not cover them.

trimmed version

About 1/2" shorter in length and covers 1st molar only. This option is recommended for people that suffer from a bad gag reflex, and for people who gag when wearing a mouthguard. NOTE: We also slightly trim the palate area of the mouthguard to help lower the chance of a gag reflex.

Mouthguard Thickness

When trying to decide which Mouthguard Thickness to choose, what you're actually selecting is the level of protection you feel is necessary for whatever sport you are participating in.

Generally speaking, the thicker the mouthguard is, the more padding it has. Thus, the more padding it has, the more protection it offers. This is the best way to describe it!

Having too many Mouthguard Thickness options can be confusing and frustrating! We have simplified this process by narrowing down our thickness options to just these 2: Standard (comfortable & lightweight) and Heavy Duty (thicker for added protection).

If you're considering a Heavy Duty mouthguard, don't worry about sacrificing comfort or breathing in order to get that added protection. Both of our mouthguard styles are extremely comfortable to wear and will allow you to breathe perfectly!

STANDARD

Sufficient protection for most athletes in most sports while offering a lightweight feel. They measure approximately 3mm thick and are loved by everybody that uses them. This is our version of a "Universal" mouthguard.
